For every one pit bull that is rescued from a shelter 600 more are put down. Pit bulls are being used for everything from therapy dogs to narcotic and bomb sniffing dogs. Pit bull are also used in search and rescue. Pits are great with kids and were used as “nanny’s dog.” They were originally bred to fight other dogs but they were family dogs first and a fighting dog second.
